2022 year in review

Whew! 2022 was a big one, top to bottom. We arrived in Manitou Springs, Colorado on January 31st: Our new home. I sold my business, Shakti Yoga Athens, *officially* in February. By mid-March we were engaged. We moved again in August - now in Colorado Springs with Molly and Kai as our next door neighbors and a view of Tavá Kaa-vi (aka Sun Mountain aka Pike’s Peak) from our couch. We spent half of September abroad for our wedding ceremony and half of October in Georgia for our reception celebration. We stayed in the Springs for Thanksgiving and rounded out the year in Blue Ridge.

We had plenty of visitors in our new home in 2022: Sheila and David, Molly and Kai, Diane and Calvin and Kristen, Danny, Caleb, Kate, Zack and Vanessa, Bradley and Rachel, Kacey and Segrid, Kent…and almost everyone more than once.

We spent Jake’s 34th birthday snowmobiling in Monarch, Colorado with Mom and David, and for my 30th we took a camping trip west to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

While on my birthday roadtrip, we camped at a spot on the river in San Jose National Forest and while we were there we chose our core values that we are committed to upholding in our relationship: Freedom, Connection, Vitality, and Fun.

Jake continued to love his job with Caliola Engineering, and added several projects to his plate.

The Show Portal continued to grow in 2022 and is in the process of an upgrade!

Speaking of which, we started our first joint-venture: TARC Ltd., Technologies for Agriculture, Ranching, and Commodities. More to come!

In transition from Georgia to Colorado, I facilitated a yoga teacher training in Athens from March through August, and traveled back and forth monthly, getting to bring Jake along in June, thankfully.

My work with the Duality Project gained momentum as we launched the Self Study Podcast, the My Self Study Guided Journal and Workbook, the You’re Doing Great Shop, one-on-one Self Study Coaching, the 2023 Self Study Program cohorts, and Heartland.

And as the year rounded out, I accepted a position as Lead Instructor at CorePower Yoga Colorado Springs, where I develop teachers, lead teacher trainings, and facilitate auditions and intensives. (I’m having so much fun so far!)

On the side, we did plenty of exploring, visiting Kate in Eagle, Colorado, for example, and venturing to Crystal Mill, Colorado with Zack and Vanessa…

For our second dating-versary, the event of the year! We got married in La Herradura, Spain, with close friends, a few family, and our best friend Kate as our officiant. We wrote our own vows and used our core values to create our own ring statements (the part where you say “I do”). Watch the Highlight Video HERE.

Probably our favorite part of the wedding as a whole was getting to be somewhere new with the people we love, and not a single person present had ever been to La Herradura, Spain, so we all got to experience it’s beauty for the very first time all together.

(Molly, Mom and I brought some of Dad along and spread his ashes into the sea at the house where we had our ceremony)

I got to visit my college friend, Berry, and her partner, Patrick, in London beforehand, and Berry, Kate and I spent a few days in Paris as well. (Back home Kent visited Jake before he joined me in Spain.)

After our wedding ceremony, we spent 3 days in Morocco, crossing a third continent off of our bucket list to visit all seven together.

Our October celebration was icing on the cake! And did you see all those cakes?! What a joy it was to have all of our favorite people together in one place! And to get to meet and see so many of our friend’s and family’s babies!

We really got to connect and reconnect with so many loved ones this year, which was one of the main intentions for all of the celebrating!

In 2022 we learned how to make candles, shovel snow, and cook homemade pasta. We got really into pour over coffee… and at-home lattes (thanks for the espresso machine, Peggy 🥰)

Jake baked 60 loaves of bread, I hand-designed our wedding stationaries, and together we continue to make an excellent team.

Jake’s word of the year was Practice. He practiced finding UDP packets, going to the gym, and perfecting our coffee experience.

My words were Align and Allow. I spent more time taking gentle care of myself than I felt comfortable with… Shifting into this next phase of life was essential, and right on time. And it came with it’s own grieving process. After most of 2022 I finally came out feeling like my fuller self again.

Overall the year was full of love, adventure, and FUN — Exactly how we like it!

Already 2023 has been ONWARD and UP.

Jake’s word this year is Development, because that’s the next step after Practice. He hopes to develop his skills as a Thru-Stack Engineer, his gains at the gym, and his sourdough repitoire. He’s also excited to start hobby-ing at the local Makerspace.

My word for 2023 is Abundance. I have enough time, talents, energy, attention, love, support, care, money, purpose, curiosity, leisure, and gratitude to go around. To sustain me and those I love. To chase my dreams fervently and vivaciously. I’m excited to lean into all the opportunities that come my way, and to continue the pursuit of art— painting, writing, pottery, movement— as a purposeful and integrated piece of my self-expression.

We look forward to seeing what the year brings!

Thank you for being part of making our 2022 so exceptional! We hope to see you in 2023, and we wish you peace, presence, and prosperity in the New Year.

Love, Ruby + Jake
